Father George Alevras is a distinguished and charismatic hieromonk, inspired by God and the Holy Spirit, whose light, since the birth of Christ, has never stopped shining and sanctifying the place of God that so rightly bears the name "Holy Mount Athos". It is a noteworthy feature of hesychasts to engender humility, but it is an imperative to promote the bright and true role-models and elder George’s great work is a unique contribution to the benefit of mankind. It is this divine light that illuminates and guides the monks of Mount Athos, who have dedicated their lives to God. It has helped them draw strength and wisdom so that they may generously impart and offer it indiscriminately to every human being, for the greater good of all. In this manner, we are all afforded the opportunity to become partakers in the precious spiritual and moral values, gifts of the Divine Power and the
Holy Spirit.
As is known, since he was an infant, Father George began to know God. At the age of 22, upon visiting the monastery of Panagia Faneromeni, within a few short minutes into prayer, a nun who saw him called upon him and told him: "God wishes for you to become like the Apostle Paul, to become a bishop my child to save thousands of people". Of course, it was not easy at such an early age for him to evaluate and fully understand the significance of these words, which were a message from God.
One month later, he met Saint Porphyrios, who became his Spiritual Father, and led him on the monastic path, revealing to him that God wishes for him to become like the Apostle Paul, and that for him to do so, he must overcome all human influences and weaknesses and allow himself to surrender to the grace and power of God. Of notable worth is that Saint Porphyrios blessed Father George immediately before he was committed to the hands of God. It is evident from all these experiences, that Father George, from his youth belongs to the highly charismatic, inspired and select monks of Mount Athos, who wanted and learned to approach God, to be enlightened by the Holy Spirit, to gain strength, will, knowledge and wisdom, and a particularly compelling ability to transmit this light of truth to people and to all mankind, just as the Apostle Paul, rendering them classified in the Pantheon of Saints. Of course, the Almighty God, for those who believe, knows those who sincerely desire and seek the light of creation for the benefit of mankind, and assigns them the vast mission of serving as the fundamental flame that illuminates the difficult and rugged road of life so that it may lead to the higher, the more sublime, real, imperishable and the eternal. Man was created to evolve so that he may reach his destination. To reach this, one must traverse a rocky road that consists of reactionary forces that aim to thwart the path to progress and truth.
In this difficult and painful process, Father George emerges triumphant, as he draws upon his own strength and with the help of a higher power, and offers and spreads the Holy Light of truth, as Jesus Christ taught us, we should do. This divine gift of Father George to foresee and provide spiritual and mental nourishment, and assistance to those in need, comes from the same life-giving source of Divine Power, which surrounds, fills, strengthens and illuminates those who wish for, seek, and accept the promising Holy Light. ELDER GEORGE AND THE MIRACLE OF THE MOVING ICON OF CHRIST MOVING ON ITS OWN IN ATHONITE CELL
(subtitles in English, filmed on cell phone)
A miraculous phenomenon has been occurring for a year now in a cell on Holy Mount Athos.
The icon of Christ the Great High Priest on the Royal Doors, in the Cell of Holy Trinity in the Provata area of Mt. Athos, has been moving on its own since Thursday in Lazarus week, just before the Holy Week and Easter of 2020.
As reported by Romfea, the Royal Door on which the icon hangs initially moved on its own for three days, from November 20 to 23 of 2019, but the icon has been moving continually since the previous April.
Sometimes the icon moves more quickly, sometimes more slowly, but its movement is not attributed to any natural causes or human intervention. People have stopped the icon from moving, but it begins again on its own.
Father George says that our hope is Jesus Christ and people must repent with sincerity and clear heart and then ask His mercy to come. Without Christ it is impossible to correct ourselves. We will not be able to detach ourselves from our passions. However much we try, we will achieve nothing.
There is one thing we must do, and that is turn to Him and love Him with all our soul. Love Him simply and humbly, without any demand, and He Himself will free you.

The Elder of the Cell, hieromonk George Alevras, during the Holy Week informed in writing about this miraculous event, the Administration and the Ecumenical Patriarch, which is the spiritual leader of Mount Athos. According to elder George, this miracle has been verified by the spiritual and administrative authorities on Mt. Athos, including Abbot Prodromos of the Great Lavra Monastery, elder Paul the superintendent of Mount Athos, fathers from numerous cells and hermitages on the Holy Mountain, and the Commander and Deputy Commander of the Karyes Police Department. The icon has also been seen by a number of pilgrims.
The official report also states, that candles were placed before the Royal Doors to examine any air flow that could be moving the icon, but the flame did not move at all, while the icon continued to move.
On February the 22nd, police officers appeared to check the event again. It was attempted to stop the movement of the icon, which –after stopping- started to move again by itself with greater tension in a miraculous way.
As they walked away they said to Elder George how proud they are for what they had witnessed and the fact that it happens at the place they serve. They asked for forgiveness for their little unfaithfulness like Apostle Thomas.
With the blessing of Elder George, the icon was filmed, showing its movement, as a blessing for the whole humanity.

ELDER GEORGE ALEVRAS INTERVIEW FOR SAINT PORPHYRIOS.
The spiritual child of saint Porphyrios, father George Alevras, deposits his soul in a revealing interview of the life of the saint.
"I confess first time publicly, I lived something that shocked me at 5:00 am in 1985.
I was young 21 years old. That moment I asked two things from God. I want a saint and a monastery.
God gave me saint Porphyrios and the Holy Mount Athos.
If someone asked me, how was your life with saint Porphyrios? Actually, now I live the presence of saint Porphyrios.
I mean, after saint Porphyrios commited to the hands of God, I feel him more alive than ever."
Monks. The angels on earth.
What is a monk elder George? (Annie 8 years old)
Elder George’s Response; “Monks have covenanted with Christ to cast away “the world and the things of the world” and have professed renunciation of parents and friends; they have covenanted to be subject to their spiritual father as to God and have committed themselves to rigorous self-discipline. The monks who submit and are faithful and mindful of the vows they have made to God, rejoice and leap for joy, that they have been found worthy to join the holy angels in singing praise to God! Through Thy Cross Christ our God, the angels, and humans become one church, heaven and earth are united, O Lord Glory to Thee. The angels are ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation. Archangel Michael is known as a protector of our Holy Orthodox Faith. He bears a flaming sword, symbol of God’s victory over evil. (Romfea). Archangel Gabriel serves as the messenger of God, most notably as the bearer of the Good News of the Annunciation. As for myself as a monk, I had a desire for embracing the monastic life and the angelic way of living. It is nothing more desirable as to close the doors of the senses, and, escaping from the flesh and the world, collected within myself, having no further connection than was absolutely necessary with human affairs, and speaking to myself and to God, to live superior to visible things, ever preserving in myself the divine impressions pure and unmixed with the erring tokens of this lower world, and both being, and constantly more and more to be, a real unspotted mirror of God and divine things, as light is added to light, and what was still dark grew clearer, enjoying already by hope the blessings of the world to come, roaming about with the angels, even now being above the earth by having forsaken it, and stationed on high by the Spirit. There came over me an eager longing for the blessings of calm and retirement, of which I had from the first been enamoured to a higher degree, I imagine, than any other student of letters, and which amidst the greatest and most threatening dangers I had promised to God, who alone is most glorious and illustrious, and surpasses in purity every nature, material and immaterial alike.”
Elder George Alevras, hieromonk of Mount Athos, releases statement of admiration, brotherhood, and solidarity today with the American people
July 4, 2021 (Mount Athos, Greece) – Elder George Alevras, hieromonk of Mount Athos and spiritual child of Saint Porphyrios, released a statement of admiration, brotherhood, and solidarity today with the American people. “1776 is a pivotal year where we see the hand of God clearly at work in the world,” Elder George points out. “On one side of the Atlantic, we witness the birth of a great nation, America, led by enlightened leaders. At the same time, in Europe, we see the birth of a holy political figure, Ioannis Kapostrias, the saint of politics, who will lead Greece on the path from occupation to liberation.”
Perhaps this is why Kapodistrias held the same ideas and ideals of his US counterparts. Even when he was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, he trusted the USA. He advised his fellow Greeks not to place too much of their hope either in Orthodox Russia or in the European Christian powers, but rather in the new nation of the USA.
That’s why when Ioannis Kapodistrias, as first Governor of Greece, thanked President John Quincy Adams, American’s 6th President, for the American’s people, philanthropic feelings towards Greece, he said, among other things “… II pray God, the Protector of America and Greece, will afford me other opportunities to witness the reciprocal sentiments between these two nations, one to which I belong, and to the other to which, I offer my sentiments of admiration and an homage of gratitude.”
A connoisseur of diplomatic history with a keen interest in American history, Elder George eloquently illustrates the common bonds between America and Greece throughout history, highlighting the prominent role leaders with a deep faith in God had in shaping their nation’s democratic bedrock.
“It is no coincidence that when American and Russian diplomatic relations were inaugurated in 1809, John Quincy Adams served as American Ambassador to Russia and Ioannis Kapodistrias held a diplomatic post in Moscow. Their correspondence demonstrated an unwavering commitment to freedom for all people,” remarks Elder George Alevras. “At the Congress of Vienna (1814-1815), Ioannis Kapodistrias was the first political leader advocating for the abolition of slavery. Later in 1840-41, John Quincy Adams would champion the rights of Africans who had fallen victim to slavery before the U.S. Supreme Court in the AMISTAD case.
Patterns of mutual respect and solidarity beautifully mark the tapestry of relations between America and Greece. The Greek Constitution of 1822, for instance, explicitly echoes the American Declaration of Independence and it was Thomas Jefferson who wrote several essays in support of the Greek Revolution mobilizing a large number of Americans in support of the Greek cause. Fast forward and more than 100 years later, American Congress has designated March 25 as “Greek Independence Day: A National Day of celebration of Greek and American Democracy”.
“We Greeks should also celebrate American Independence from now own because it coincides with the birth our first Governor, this should inspire us and we should embrace it as a sign from God”. Elder George’s statement comes as Greece commemorates its 200thanniversary of liberation from Ottoman rule. Against this backdrop, festivities in honor of American Independence hold a special meaning in the hearts of Greeks who understand the important role of American stewardship in the world.
Ioannis Kapodistrias was a man of deep faith who also possessed a unique spirit of sacrifice, who served all Greeks and who built Greece up from its ashes. He is the father of all Greeks, the greatest Governor who gave birth to this country. He passed away on September 27, 1831. He was murdered on the steps of the Church of Saint Spyridon in Nafplio by Greeks, but mainly by the hatred of those who do not want peace and unity.
The Greatest American President, in the eyes of many, was President Abraham Lincoln, who declared that he did not nurture "evil for anyone", he asked for "mercy for all" and he wanted above all "peace among everyone". He too fell dead at the hands of his compatriots.
In the end, the price of freedom – gaining the independence of the USA and Greece was a very heavy price. Elder George cautions, however, “We must not take our freedoms for granted. We must never forget that the freedoms we enjoy today are founded on the bloodshed and the sacrifices of our saints, national martyrs and heroes”.
When Tsar Alexander I sought to appoint Ioannis Kapodistrias as Russian ambassador to the USA and all preparations are being made, Ioannis Kapodistrias rejected the prominent position. Instead, he preferred a simple diplomatic position in Russia, from where he will be able to assist the Greek issue (of independence) faster and more closely. These two men, John Q. Adams and Ioannis Kapodistrias, are now closely connected and have correspondence which will last for several years.
Tsar Alexander I, recognized early on that Ioannis Kapodistias held strong democratic ideals, and that it why the Tsar assigned him to reconstruct Switzerland in 1813. Within a few months’ time, Kapodistrias had drafted local constitutions for the cantons, he had bridged the differences between the people and through the power of conciliation and diplomacy, he united everyone in a federal state. The constitution, he drafted and its basic principles remain intact today and Switzerland is arguably considered the most perfect constitution on the planet. The culmination of Ioannis Kapodistrias's effort is evidenced at the Congress of Vienna in 1815 where Switzerland officially gained its independence and neutrality from all conflicts; it has consequently not participated in any world wars.
As the first citizen of Switzerland and its benefactor, Ioannis Kapodistrias asked Tsar Alexander I for his assistance in the liberation of Greece. At the same time, he gave almost all of his money to strengthen the struggle of the Greek revolutionaries. The Tsar did not respond and, after 18 years in Russian diplomacy, Ioannis Kapodistrias resigned from his position. He urged the Greeks to turn their attention to the other side of the Atlantic, to the new rising power – America – while at the same time organizing a huge Pan-Hellenic movement.
He owed almost all the money to strengthen the struggle of the Greek revolutionaries.
Today’s statement is not the first time Elder George Alevras has openly expressed his appreciation for the American people. On March 25 of this year, Elder George released a distinguished publication “ The United States of America take the lead in the Promotion of Hellenism”, showcasing the mutual benefits American-Greek friendship and partnerships across a broad spectrum of fields – science, government, philosophy, architecture, sport, among others.
